Funding secured for Hayes town centre regeneration
Residents living in Hayes in the London borough of Hillingdon will continue to see their local town centre transformed thanks to a funding boost from the mayor.
Hillingdon Council has been awarded an extra £4.5 million to invest in the regeneration of the area, with a number of new improvements planned over the next three years.
A consultation was held in September and October this year during which local people were asked to submit their views on how to make Hayes town centre a better place to live, work and visit.
More than two thirds of those who responded said they would like to see the existing layout changed, while better lighting and access to parking were also recommended.
Work on these and other initiatives is expected to begin in the New Year and Douglas Mill, cabinet member for community, commerce and regeneration at Hillingdon Council, said residents should start to notice some changes in the coming weeks.
Keith Burrows, cabinet member for planning, transportation and recycling, added: "This funding announcement is a huge coup for Hayes and will see some much needed improvements being made.
"The consultation we recently held was very successful and this £4.5million investment will help to revitalise the whole town centre and build on what we have already achieved there."
Locals have seen some major changes around Hayes town centre as part of the regeneration plan. For example, more than 1,120 square metres of private forecourts have been resurfaced along Coldharbour Lane to boost trade to 41 businesses.
Traders have also been offered grants through the mayor's Outer London Fund to improve their shop fronts and help transform the look and feel of Coldharbour Lane and Station Road.
The changes will not only benefit those already living in the area, but they could also boost the appeal of property to rent in Hayes among those looking to settle in Hillingdon.
