Flats to rent in Southwark 'come with improving education'
Those with families seeking property to rent in the London borough of Southwark may be encouraged by news that the borough led the way for improvements in school GCSE results last year.
New government figures have revealed Southwark, Thurrock and Westminster saw the greatest increases in the number of pupils getting five GCSEs at grades A* to C including English and Maths between 2007 and 2010.
These showed 78.9 per cent of pupils reaching this level in 2010, with 100 per cent attainment at Alleyn's School in Dulwich, while 99 per cent achieved these grades at Bacon's College in Rotherhithe and Dulwich College.
Such scores may reassure parents of school-age children that they will be well served by good educational institutions in the borough.
And for those keen to get ahead by reading a lot, local residents in Southwark have been asked by the council for their thoughts on a new library in the Canada Water area.
Over the last six months requests for books have varied from Japanese Manga publications to Jane Austen novels.
