Dollis Valley regeneration scheme given the go ahead
Plans to regenerate the Dollis Valley housing estate in Chipping Barnet have been given the go ahead and work could begin as early as next year.
Barnet Council, Countryside Properties and London & Quadrant have signed an agreement for the project, which will see the construction of 616 new homes for sale and rent.
Half of these will be traditional houses with gardens and more than 200 will be affordable rented homes, potentially making property to rent in Barnet even more attractive.
There are also plans to build new green spaces on the site, as well as public facilities such as a community centre, a nursery, offices and retail units.
The Dollis Valley is a post-war estate built in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It currently consists of two and three storey houses and five storey blocks of flats and maisonettes.
Under the regeneration plans these will be replaced by a mixed tenure high quality development, creating a sustainable neighbourhood with a vibrant character.
"We know that regeneration is more than re-building decrepit blocks of flats," said Richard Cornelius, leader of Barnet Council.
"With the new homes and mixed community of owner occupied and council tenants we will make sure that educational and other offers are the same for everybody."
Jerome Geoghegan, group director of development and sales at London & Quadrant, added: "I am very pleased to have signed this regeneration agreement with Barnet Council and Countryside Properties.
"With our partners, London & Quadrant now plans to create high quality homes for people on a range of incomes, and new community facilities."
Dollis Valley is one of a number of regeneration projects being undertaken or proposed by Barnet Council in order to attract people to the borough and create more opportunities for those who already live there.
They include Cricklewood Brent Cross, where a new town centre, three local schools, new health facilities and around 7,500 new homes will be delivered, and Stonegrove and Spur Road, which is in the fifth phase of construction and will see 937 new homes put up for sale and rent.
