Could tenants benefit from boiler scrappage scheme?
Britons living in or looking for flats to rent in Blackheath or elsewhere in London may wish to find out if their landlord has recently upgraded their boiler.
Should this not be the case, they may wish to urge the property professional to take advantage of the boiler scrappage scheme, which was launched this week by the prime minister, Gordon Brown.
It is hoped the scheme will not only prevent more Britons from entering fuel poverty, by making it cheaper for them to heat their homes, but will also help to reduce the country's domestic carbon emissions.
Climate change secretary Ed Miliband said: "The Boiler Scrappage Scheme will save around £200 off heating bills per year for families that are replacing their old boilers and in total will save the same amount of carbon equivalent to taking around 45,000 cars off the road."
The scheme could benefit tenants as a new condensing boiler can help to reduce their bills by up to £235 a year, money which could be out towards enjoying life in London.
