Companies help to lead the recovery in Hertsmere
Businesses are helping to lead the recovery in Hertsmere, it has been announced.
Hertsmere Council has revealed that over 30 businesses gathered together this month to discuss ways to improve high streets in the borough, boost jobs, support businesses and improve skills.
At the event, Donald Graham, chief executive of the council said that the local authority has further plans to work together with stakeholders, residents and community groups to make improvements to the area.
He said: "Hertsmere is a great place to live and work and has a diverse and relatively strong economy already but we have enormous potential to grow even further. It’s vital that Hertsmere’s economy continues to grow and prosper and we welcome all views on the draft strategy. Your feedback will be used to inform the final strategy and resulting action plans to ensure our economic prosperity and improve everyone’s quality of life."
His comments were supported by the West Herts Chamber of Commerce and Hertsmere Connect, which said the developments that had taken place in the borough recently were encouraging.
Ian Welland, chief executive of the West Herts Chamber of Commerce said that businesses should get involved in local initiatives that help to drive creativity in the area and support strategic policies, which help to bring about desired changes in the borough.
Recently, the economic development team employed by Hertsmere Council set out a strategic document that outlines the council's aims and objectives for improving the area.
Commenting on the document, councillor Seamus Quilty, portfolio holder for economic development and housing, at the council, said: "Hertsmere’s economy benefits from our excellent location close to London, great transport links and a significant role in the creative industries which includes the council-owned Elstree Studios in Borehamwood. But we also have many challenges to overcome as well as opportunities to take advantage of, which I’m sure in time we will be able to do."
