Bushey's King George park to celebrate 100th anniversary
A series of activities are being planned to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the King George Recreation Ground in Bushey.
The events will take place on May 5th and it is hoped the whole family will be able to enjoy what is on offer. Parents looking for property to rent in Bushey Mead should be pleased to hear about the hosting of such a prestigious afternoon.
Classic fairground games such as coconut shy, a Punch and Judy show and a special exhibition are just some of the activities individuals can look forward to. As well as this, an Edwardian fancy dress competition is to be held.
Children's author Andrea Black will be on hand to read extracts from her latest book The Adventures of Skippity Hop, while a five-a-side football competition is also being organised.
Francesca Turze, area parks officer for Hertsmere Council, noted that for the past 100 years the park has been "the centre of the community". She added: "In this Olympic year, the centenary celebrations are a fantastic opportunity to recognise the vital role of green spaces such as the King George Recreation Ground."
Mike Shrives, chairman of the Friends of King George Recreation Ground - which supports the council in maintaining the space - described the location as wonderful. "I would like to thank the members of the Friends group, Hertsmere Leisure, Hertsmere Borough Council, local media and all the wonderful people who have helped to make this day possible," he remarked.
Admission to the park on May 5th is free and all of the celebrations will get underway from 14:00 BST. Shaz Setoudeh of Hertsmere Leisure is confident there will be "something for everyone" and the representative hopes there is plenty of sunshine on the big day.
An exhibition looking at the history of the park will run at Bushey Museum until June 24th, which is open Thursday to Sunday from 11:00 to 16:00 BST and admission to the location is free.
