Bus stand completed at Streatham Hub
Streatham Hub will bring major benefits for the area's residents when it opens at the end of 2013 and the project has just reached its first major milestone.
The bus station that will serve the development has now been completed, with specially designed staff and driver facilities as well as eight bus stands.
It is located near Streatham Railway Station, giving passengers even more choice when taking public transport to and from the new facilities.
Streatham Hub will be home to a number of community amenities, including a swimming pool, a leisure centre and a full-sized ice rink.
Some 250 new residential properties will also be built on the site in five apartment blocks. They will be a mixture of private, shared-ownership and affordable homes. Underground parking space will be made available.
Existing facilities on the site, including the disused swimming baths and Streatham Ice Rink, have been demolished to make room for the new development.
Councillor Lib Peck, cabinet member for regeneration at Lambeth Council, said: "After so many years planning it's fantastic that the Streatham Hub scheme is now starting to take shape.
"Despite the unpredictably wet weather over the summer, work is progressing well and the new buildings are starting to rise from the ground, which is great to see."
He said Streatham Hub will help to expand the provision of leisure facilities in the borough of Lambeth and leave a lasting sporting legacy for the London 2012 Olympics.
The leisure centre and ice rink are expected to be built by August 2013 and the entire development is due to open to the public at the end of next year. The apartments are scheduled for completion in February 2014.
Not only will it benefit local residents, but it could also appeal to those seeking property to rent in Streatham, making the area even more attractive.
