Brent residents to present ideas to dragons
People living in property to rent in the London borough of Brent are being given the opportunity to present ideas for projects in their area to a panel of 'community dragons'.
Inspired by the popular BBC programme Dragons' Den, Brent Council has set up an event at which locals can pitch their ideas to a team of respected and no-nonsense community members.
The event is to take place at Queen's Park Community School on Aylestone Avenue in Kilburn today (July 6th) from 18:00 - 19:00 BST.
It is to be chaired by Queen's Park ward councillor James Denselow and the judging panel includes Sergeant Graeme Day of Queen's Park Safer Neighbourhood Team.
The other members of the team are Steve Cripps, who is the deputy head of Queens Park Community School, Peter Stachniewski, head of Brent Council's One Council Programme, and environmental campaigner Lorraine Skinner, who pioneered the Green Zones initiative.
Each year, every ward in Brent is given a budget of £20,000 to spend on addressing local issues.
"All projects are prioritised by ward councillors to tackle matters raised by local residents," a statement from Brent Council explains.
"The current priorities for Queen's Park are supporting young people's activities and enhancing Salusbury's Road," it goes on to say.
At the Community Dragons session, the local community will be able to find out more information on local community groups.
The event is to precede the Kilburn and Kensal Area Consultative Forum, which is set to take place at the same venue from 19:00 - 21:00 BST.
This meeting covers the Brondesbury Park, Kilburn, Mapesbury and Queens Park wards.
At this meeting, presentations will be made on the latest developments at the Brent Civic Centre, South Kilburn regeneration proposals, the School Crossing Patrol consultation and the Green Charter consultation.
