Barnet residents encouraged to take part in referendum
People living in property to rent in the London borough of Barnet are being urged to take part in the first UK-wide referendum.
Set to take place on May 5th, the referendum will be on the voting system used for elections.
UK residents are being asked whether they want the alternative vote system to be used instead of the first past the post system that is currently used to elect MPs to the House of Commons.
Those who wish to take part have until Thursday April 14th to register.
People who are set to be away on the date of the referendum can vote by post or by proxy.
Adrian Green from the Electoral Commission said: "People don't always realise that they can have their say in different ways … So if you are going to be away on Thursday May 5th, take a few minutes now to make sure your voice will still be heard."
Earlier this month, Barnet Council urged local residents to fill in their Census forms.
