Barnet regeneration scheme proposed
Plans have been submitted for a massive £4.5 billion regeneration project in the north London borough of Barnet.
Under the proposals a new town centre named Cricklewood and Brent Cross will be developed, encompassing some 7,500 homes as well as three schools and new health facilities.
A further £400 million has been allocated to improvements in public transport, while the borough will also roll out a new automated waste collection facility which will utilise a number of newly-constructed underground pipes.
Council leader Mike Freer said: "This is a major development that will deliver a new residential area of the highest quality, and which will also achieve the highest possible eco standards."
The 151 hectare regeneration site will span the area in between Brent Cross shopping centre in the north, A41 Hendon Way in the east, Cricklewood Lane in the south and the A5 Edgware Road in the west.
In addition to providing local residents with a raft of new services and facilities, the project is also expected to create some 27,000 jobs.
