Tenants 'should look to boost home security'
People are being warned to take care to ensure that their homes are as secure as possible in order to avoid becoming the victim of a burglary.
Sainsbury's Home Insurance revealed that there has been a 13 per cent decline in the number of people claiming for thefts, despite the fact that the group claimed burglaries are on the rise.
In light of this, the financial services provider has stated that this may have arisen as people are attempting to save money by not taking out or renewing home contents insurance - a product that those looking for flats to rent in Fulham or another part of the capital may wish to take out.
Ben Tyte, manager of Sainsbury's Home Insurance, stated: "A rise in burglaries may not be a surprise during a recession but what is alarming is the decrease in theft-related claims over the same period which we fear may indicate that fewer people have adequate home contents cover in place."
Tenants may also wish to ensure their bikes are secure, after the Guardian reported that bike security could be an increasing priority for people looking to rent.
