Shad Thames: Perfect for those who love riverside residences
Shad Thames is located in the SE1 postcode, which makes it part of the London borough of Southwark.
The area is a historic riverside street, located just beside Tower Bridge, putting it very much in the heart of the city.
Running along the south side of the River Thames, the street is set back behind a row of converted warehouses and it boasts numerous dining establishments and bars in the local vicinity.
According to upmystreet.com's neighbourhood snapshot of the area, the vast majority of residents in this area are young, multi-ethnic families, with a high number of children under the age of five.
Some 70 per cent of the housing is purpose-built blocks of flats and the working population, on the whole, tends to be employed in retail roles.
Transport
Car ownership among those living in the area is fairly low, due to the close proximity to the city centre, as well as the good public transport links on offer.
Shad Thames is just the other side of the river from Tower Hill Underground station, where the Circle, District and Hammersmith and City lines operate from.
Also nearby are Bermondsey and London Bridge Tube Stations, which provide access to the Northern and Jubilee lines.
Shad Thames is within walking distance of mainline station Fenchurch Street, which offers links to East London and out to the Essex coast on C2C services, making it a great location to live in if you would like easy access to the seaside and countryside at weekends.
There are also numerous bus routes in the vicinity, with Covent Garden accessible on the RV1 and the 24-hour 188 going to Russell Square - both of which are in the heart of London's West End.
Schools
Within a very close radius of the SE1 postcode, there are five primary schools and five secondary facilities.
The independent London Christian School , Beormund Primary School and Charles Dickens Primary School all offer education for youngsters up until the age of 11, while the Fairley House School Junior Department educates children between five and eight and the Globe Academy takes pupils from three to 18.
At the Charles Dickens Primary School, 100 per cent of pupils achieved level four and above in both Maths and Science during their Key Stage 2 Sats, while 96 per cent achieved the same in English.
The best-performing secondary school in the area is the St Saviour's and St Olave's Church of England School, where 73 per cent of pupils gain five or more GCSEs between A* and C.
Things to do
People who choose to move to property to rent in Shad Thames will find there is a range of things to do in the local area - particularly if they enjoy eating out.
Along the riverside, there are a number of different bars, as well as some very high-end restaurants including the Blueprint Cafe, Browns and Butler's Wharf Chop House.
There are also a number of different activities to engage in further down the Thames, including visiting exhibitions at the Tate Modern or taking in a dramatic performance at Shakespeare's Globe on the South Bank.
Entry is free to the Tate, except for at major exhibitions, and it is open from 10:00 to 22:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, so there's plenty of time to explore the international modern and contemporary artwork on show.
