Earl's Court: Residing in Earl's Court
It only takes one walk down Fulham Road, humming with traffic and bustling with people, to see the attraction of living in Earl's Court. The street, packed with some of the most unique-looking houses in London, is an utter delight, by itself providing more than enough of a reason to want to live here.
Once home to the king (or indeed Queen) of rock Freddie Mercury, as well as being the current residence of several other high-profile celebrities including Gary Barlow and John Barrowman, the area is a jewel in the crown of London. Located in the south-west corner of zone one, its gorgeous tree-lined streets are sure to be particularly attractive to families, a theory supported by the abundance of green areas and parks scattered throughout the borough. Holland Park is also within easy reach - a great place to kick back and relax with the kids on a hot summers' day.
Housing
You'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to housing. The area is packed with street after street of gorgeous four-to-five storey homes, although you'll have to pay a fair bit to live here, as it is in zone one of London. However, it's much better value than its Kensington and Belgravia neighbours, with average rental values standing at £503 per week.
Entertainment
The area is famously home to the well-known exhibition centre, which frequently plays host to various exciting events that focus on everything from Doctor Who to modern computer games. It's certainly a fantastic place to visit at the weekend if you're looking for a way to entertain the kids, but check what's on first.
When it comes to eating out, the area is home to a number of high-profile independent restaurants sure to satisfy the tastes of anyone, as well as a number of chains ranging from McDonalds to Wagamammas.
For those looking for a cheeky drink after work, the area's fine selection of pubs and bars is sure to appease, although there aren't any nightclubs based in Earl's Court. If you're looking to paint the town red properly, you'll have to venture a little further afield.
Transportation
Fortunately, this is relatively easy. Being in zone one, Earl's Court is extremely well connected via London's Tube network. Venturing into the centre of town is no problem at all - simply hop onto the circle or district line for 15 minutes.
Those looking for easy access to international shores will find Heathrow easy to get to via the Piccadilly line while Victoria is only a short hop away, which provides a fast service to Gatwick.
Resident's paradise
To sum up, Earl's Court is a fantastic location for those looking to live in a quiet neighbourhood in London that not only looks attractive but also comes with a great value price tag for where it is. While properties can undoubtedly be found for cheaper in other areas, you're unlikely to snap up a house with as much character as can be found here. Well worth a look if you can afford it.
