Greenwich celebrate top A-level and BTEC results
Students across the Royal borough of Greenwich are celebrating an increase in the number of top grades that have been awarded for A-levels and BTECs. A larger number of students received grades between A* and B this year in comparison to last, providing them with a strong foundation on which to build their future education or careers.
Throughout the borough the rate of A-level grades between A* and B increased by 0.2 percentage points. This has built upon the improvement rates of 2012, and means that the borough has maintained grades that are well above the national average. Hundreds more students within Greenwich will now have the opportunity to attend their favoured universities and go onto other means of further study.
Students completing vocational BTECs also have reason to celebrate as they have also experienced an increase in achievement levels. The number of BTEC pass grades between A* and B rose by just under 18 percentage points, which represents a massive achievement for the borough. Just below 60 per cent of BTEC grades achieved by Greenwich students fell into this grade range. This has put BTEC results nine per cent above the national average.
Amongst the schools that have received high pass rates for both A-levels and BTEC courses is Woolwich Polytechnic. This year represents the first results gained by the establishment's new sixth form college. Woolwich polytechnic achieved a 41.7 per cent pass rate of grades between A* and B, representing a positive start to the new facilities.
Councillor Jackie Smith, cabinet member for Children's Services for the Royal borough of Greenwich, said: "Congratulations to all our students getting their A-level and BTEC results today (August 15th).
"Their success reflects the hard work that they have put in, and gives them a great platform from which to progress into higher or further education or into employment.
"Greenwich has continued to invest in improved buildings and facilities, as a result of which our students now have access to a wider range of opportunities in the borough than ever before."
