Dulwich: A luxurious location in south London

Dulwich: A luxurious location in south LondonBackground

Those looking for flats to rent with a luxurious, upmarket feel, may find Dulwich is the perfect location for them.

Situated in the borough of Southwark, it is one of the most sought-after areas in the region and offers quaint surroundings such as duck ponds and green spaces, as well as impressive Victorian properties and an affluent atmosphere.

It is split into two areas – Dulwich and East Dulwich - each of which has its own unique charm and character.

The first is full of landmarks and boasts a fashionable but laid-back and relaxed feeling. East Dulwich, on the other hand, offers more affordable homes that provide an alternative to the popular main village.

Although the two areas are very different, they both have something to offer and are likely to give people hunting for flats to rent in the south of London plenty to think about as a result of their beautiful appearance and high standard of living.

Properties

The price of homes varies between Dulwich and East Dulwich, with the former being a little more expensive. However, properties in the area are still likely to be cheaper than many homes to rent, especially if people do not want to be tied down by the financial commitment of a mortgage.

According to the August House Price Index from the Land Registry, the average cost of a dwelling in England and Wales is £167,423.

This is a monthly increase of 0.3 per cent and an annual rise of 6.7 per cent, which could encourage more people to consider renting a property instead of buying.

In comparison, the average price of a one-bedroom abode in Dulwich is £1,079 per month. Those after a little more space could get a two-bedroom home from £849, with £1,495 being the top price.

A three-bedroom abode would set individuals back from between £1,200 and £1,517 per month, while a studio apartment costs an average of £780 every 30 days.

Transport

Of course, many people electing to rent a property in Dulwich could be city slickers looking for a bit of peace and quiet when they finish work.

However, they will still need excellent transport links to get them to the office and luckily, the area has just that.

North, East and West Dulwich rail stations are all located near the village, giving commuters plenty of choice when it comes to getting to work in the morning, no matter whereabouts in the area they settle.

For those who prefer to drive, it is about a 25-minute journey right into the heart of the capital, along a route that takes them through Camberwell and Lambeth.

Local amenities

As with many of the regions surrounding Central London, Dulwich has plenty to keep its residents happy.

East Dulwich is ideal for fashionistas and those who love to socialise thanks to its array of shops and local restaurants, as well as the market that appears every weekend to tempt passersby with delicious foods and other specialist products.

On the other hand, Dulwich offers relaxed country living close to the city with parks, greenery and quaint range of boutiques. Restaurants and cafes are still available for those who like to dine in style, while Dulwich Gallery may entice culture vultures after something different to wile away a Sunday afternoon.
