Property to rent in Richmond-upon-Thames: Ham gets youth music studio
A new studio in Ham will allow young musicians in the area to rehearse and record their own songs, which may offer another incentive to seek property to rent in the London borough of Richmond-upon-Thames.
From next week, Ham Youth Centre will be kitted out with a rehearsal space, guitars, a drum kit, production software, DJ decks and professional mixing desks to support young musicians.
In addition, young local bands and rappers can record their songs to an almost professional standard, as well as study for qualifications such as the Arts Award.
The facility, which has been funded by the London Development Agency and the Council's Youth Opportunity Fund, will be free to youths aged between 11 and 19.
Christine Percival, Richmond-upon-Thames Council's cabinet member for education, youth and children's services, said: "We are keen to provide young people in the borough with safe places to go and it's always better if there is something they can do there that they enjoy."
Earlier this month, Richmond Council arts service Orleans House Gallery launched the Journeys: Stories of the World project, which is designed to engage people with the arts.
