High Street Hub opens in Clapham to make nights out safer
property to rent in Clapham has always been popular among young professionals who like to work hard during the day and play hard in the evening, thanks to its vast array of pubs and clubs.
Clapham High Street is a particularly popular destination for partygoers and on Friday and Saturday nights is usually packed with revellers eager to make the most of their weekend.
But while the majority are simply out to have a good time, there are inevitably problems with drunkenness, crime and antisocial behaviours when such large crowds amass.
That's why Lambeth Council is acting to make Clapham High Street a safer place to party with the launch of a new Night-time Hub at the Methodist Church.
It opened for the first time on Friday December 14th and will be welcoming people every weekend between the hours of 11pm and 5am until the first weekend in February.
Anyone who is on Clapham High Street at those times and who feels vulnerable, has minor injuries or needs assistance will be able to go to the hub for help.
It will provide a safe place for people to seek shelter, have a cup of tea, contact friends if they have become separated and arrange transport home. Qualified medical staff will also be on hand.
The Night-time Hub is a pilot project that makes use of the expertise developed in other town centres across the country.
Not only does it aim to boost safety for local people and visitors to the area, but it is also designed to ease the pressure on the emergency services.
Lambeth Council has already taken steps to reduce antisocial behaviour on Clapham High Street and make the area a more attractive evening location by preventing new bars and clubs from opening.
