Mortlake: a great part of London with plenty to offer

Mortlake is a delightful part of South-West London that is perfect for enjoying a leisurely stroll by the river before settling down for a perfect pint of beer.

The local Stag Brewery and its produce are among the top attractions here, especially when enjoyed at the finishing post of the Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge.

Characterised by a host of elegant 18th and 19th Century houses with lush gardens and narrow alleyways leading from the towpath back into the town, Mortlake is a part of London that harks back to a forgotten time.

It is also home to a famous crematorium and cemetery, which contains the tent-shaped mausoleum of Victorian explorer Sir Richard Burton.

Mortlake is blessed with great neighbours, surrounded by suburbs full of attractions of their own, including Kew, Richmond, Kingston upon Thames, Barnes and Putney.

On top of that, it is well served by the local rail network, boasting three stations - Mortlake, Barnes Bridge and North Sheen - as well as the buses.

Central London, with all its associated attractions, is just 40 minutes away, making it easy to experience the big city life as and when locals want to do so.

But it is the relaxed and pleasant nature of Mortlake itself that makes it one of the best places in and around London to live.

Lovely buildings nestled between winding streets and old style pubs make it a great area in which to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Unwind after a hard week at work in one of the many restaurants on the high street and near the river, while soaking up the history of this special suburb.
