Children in Merton called on to take part in Summer Reading Challenge
Children who live in property to rent in the London borough of Merton, and other youngsters in the area, should take part in the Summer Reading Challenge this year.
It kicks off on Saturday July 16th and the libraries in Merton are calling for children aged between four and 11 to join in the circus-themed event.
As part of the Circus Stars challenge, youngsters in the targeted age group are being asked to read six stories over the school holidays.
Those who manage to achieve this goal could be in with a chance of winning some great prizes.
Nearly 3,000 children took part last year and the borough hopes to better this number in 2011.
"The Summer Reading Challenge is a great way to make reading fun and entertaining for young children," said Merton Council's cabinet member for community and culture, Martin Whelton.
Recently, residents in Merton were told they would benefit from the opening of a new credit union.
The council worked with Merton Priory Homes to create the new service, which is located at Merton Civic Centre on London Road, Morden.
