Sutton residents urged to turn off lights
People living in property to rent in the London borough of Sutton are being urged to turn off their lights for an hour this weekend.
Tomorrow (Saturday March 26th) sees the return of the World Wildlife Fund's (WWF's) International Earth Hour.
This will see people across the world turn off their lights at 20:30 GMT in order to raise awareness of the impact that energy use is having on the environment.
Chris Reid, Sutton Council's executive head of environmental sustainability, said: "If everyone in Sutton turned off their lights for an hour, a significant amount of energy would be saved. It will also provide a real signal of residents' concern for the planet."
He suggested that people take the time to think about how they can protect their environment though methods that will also cut their household bills.
Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, and saw 2.2 million individuals and more than 2,000 businesses turn off their lights for an hour.
