New sports facility opened in Epsom
Residents in Epsom and Ewell will now be able to benefit from a new 3 Generation astro-turf facility that's been opened at Court Recreation Centre.
Paid for using Olympic legacy funding from Sport England, the new playing surface is more durable and user friendly than the previous ground.
Epsom and Ewell Borough Council was awarded £64,912 for the project, which included the re-fencing of the site for security purposes and the installation of new goals and nets.
Court Recreation Ground is one of 350 local community sports groups to be offered a share in a £17.4 million pot of Olympic legacy funding, designed to inspire future athletes with top quality sports facilities in their local areas.
Each facility to receive funding will carry the London 2012 Inspire mark to celebrate its link to the London Games for years to come.
The astro-turf ground was officially opened by Epsom and Ewell's mayor Christine Long and the first event to be held on the surface was the Adult Epsom Community Football Festival.
Councillor Jan Mason, chair of the council's leisure committee, said: "Court Rec astro-turf is currently used by nine local clubs and organisations with a primary focus on football activity.
"There is a high demand for the facility as it is the only floodlit artificial sports turf available for regular community use in the borough."
She added: "We really hope that the new facilities will encourage even more of our residents to get involved in sports."
It's just one more in a long list of amenities that those looking for flats to rent in Epsom can enjoy.
Court Recreation Ground is located around half a mile from Epsom town centre and is also home to a bowling green, a children's playground and three floodlit tennis courts.
