Flats to rent in Sutton: Youth employment defies UK trend
The UK's rising trend of youth unemployment is being bucked in Sutton, which may encourage more young jobseekers to consider moving to flats to rent in the London borough of Sutton.
According to the local council, the unemployment of the borough's under-25s fell by four per cent over the September to December 2010 period, with 50 fewer 18 to 24-year-olds claiming jobseekers allowance at the start of 2011 than they were in November.
The authority compared this to the UK-wide average, which saw youth unemployment rise to 20.3 per cent in the three months to December, with 951,000 under-25s being out of work.
Jayne McCoy, Sutton Council's executive member for planning, economic development and housing, commented: "Young people are the future of our community and by equipping them with the skills and assistance they need in their early careers we are also investing in the prosperity of the borough for years to come."
Earlier this month, Sutton Council asked firms to back the Business Improvement District proposal, which aims to create a defined commercial area in the town centre and boost the local economy.
