Epsom & Ewell 3rd best borough in the UK
Epsom & Ewell Borough has been ranked as one of the best places to live in the UK.
The area was ranked third out of 324 in a survey carried out by Experian on behalf of the Sunday Times - it lost out to Chilton District in Buckinghamshire and Surrey area Elmbridge - and it means flats to rent in Epsom & Ewell may be highly desirable moving forward.
Mayor of Epsom & Ewell Christine Long stated: "This year Epsom & Ewell celebrates our 75th anniversary. What a fantastic way to commemorate this auspicious year with external evidence of what an excellent place Epsom & Ewell is to live".
Some 47 different measures were looked at in order to determine the ranking, including air quality, low burglary rates, school achievements, neighbourliness, low crime rates, Ofsted scores, unemployment rates, high life expectancy and good access to facilities.
There were a number of areas where the location outscored other boroughs, including low retail vacancy rates, Oftsed score, high levels of life expectancy, high employment levels, low population without qualifications, low unemployment rates, good social cohesion, house affordability when based on ratio of earnings and percentage of the population in good health.
One of the most appealing aspects of the borough could be its vast open spaces. It boasts over 2,000 acres of green areas, which is nearly one-quarter of the size of the entire location. A famous 1600s spa town, it is home to the Epsom Derby horse race and has an active horseracing and training industry.
With only 72,700 residing in the borough, it has the smallest population of any of the Surrey districts. A clean-up of the community was recently held in an effort to make sure it is looking its best for the London Olympics, which are due to get underway on July 27th.
Some 14 local schools and 50 residents took part in the initiative. Councillor Clive Woodbridge was delighted with the results and encouraged people to look after their green spaces.
