Area Feature
Turnham Green is a leafy and pleasant area of Chiswick, West London, with lots of parks and green spaces.
It started out as a village on the main road between London and the West End. It is also a place of historical interest and became known for the Battle of Turnham Green, which was fought near there during the First English Civil War in 1642.
Since then, Turnham Green and its surrounding areas has coined a reputation as a trendy and upmarket suburb of London.
The area is also known for its regular local community events, which includes a travelling fun fair, church events and charity table-top sales.
Its is well served by Tube Stations and buses and the nearest London Underground station is Chiswick Park, which runs on the District Line.
Confusingly, Turnham Green Tube station is actually situated on Chiswick Common, which is a little bit further away.
It is also served by Gunnersbury Tube station, which doubles up as a national rail station.
The area is represented by two local authorities: Ealing Council and Hounslow Council.
Chiswick
Turnham Green is located in Chiswick, an upmarket, trendy area of London. The area is popular among young professionals who enjoy being close to the River Thames and the surrounding greenery. Its excellent transport links have also contributed to the popularity of the area.
Chiswick is favoured by young families, which is predominantly due to the quality of the local primary schools and quick access to the country.
The area is great for shopping and is full of gastro pubs, cafes, bars, independent shops and high street chains.
West London is just a stone throw away and there are a number of places to dine out and socialise. The River Thames is also a big feature of the area and local residents have access to a number of riverside pubs, parks and heritage buildings.
Chiswick High Road is located opposite Turnham Green and alive with shoppers visiting the great local and well known high street shops, as well as business meetings.
Many of the gastro pubs in the area are open until the early hours of the morning. It is also home to the Chiswick Farmers and Fine Foods Market, which is highly popular among locals.
Attractions and entertainment
One of the main attractions near Turnham Green is Kew Gardens. The attraction is a botanical hotspot, which hosts a wealth of tropical plant life in West London. The gardens hold over 250 years of history and it recently enjoyed a 29 per cent increase in visitors.
Chiswick Theatre Arts
The theatre offers dance and drama for children and adults and hosts a number of shows and performances each year.
Comedy Club
This is where the Headliners Comedy Club is held several nights a week and is highly popular among locals.
Bedford Park
Bedford Park is a suburban development in Turnham Green and is mostly located in Ealing. It is also home to the Bedford Park Festival. The festival is one of London's best arts and community events, attracting thousands of people from the local area and further afield.
It is held between June 7th-22nd and raises money for local charities. The event contains something for everyone, including photography, music, art and community activities.
New Developments
Currently, there are a number of large developments, apartments and shops planned for Chiswick High Road opposite Turnham Green.
International property development company Lend Lease has recently acquired a 1.3 acre plot on a stretch of the High Road, which has sparked speculation about redevelopment in the area.
However, the company itself said that it would apply for all necessary planning permissions later this year.
It added that its aims were to construct "a high-quality development which enhances the local environment with the potential to provide both residential and retail space for the local community".
