Smart meters for all property in London and UK
All property in London - and the rest of the UK - will have Smart Meters by 2020, according to the government.
In a statement released today by the Department of Energy and Climate Change, it was revealed that the new technology will bring a number of benefits to houses across the country.
One of the perks of the meters will be the clarity they provide regarding the level of electricity and gas usage in properties.
This may be useful within houses to rent in London because tenants will have visible evidence of what energy they have been using, making it clear what they have to pay.
The real-time monitor will be good for consumers - including landlords - and the environment.
Energy and climate change secretary Ed Miliband said: "This is another part of our Great British refurb. The meters most of us have in our homes were designed for a different age, before climate change."
