Tenants to give feedback on landlords
Feedback on the UK's worst and best Landlords may help tenants to make a decision when looking for flats to rent in Kensington or another part of London.Housing minister John Healey last week announced new practical help and protection guidelines for tenants in privately rented homes.
These included a new feedback website where tenants will be able to post their experiences of the accommodation they have rented and their Landlords.
A hotline will also be set up to offer advice to people who rent their homes, while tenancy rights will be extended to more people living in shared homes on short term lets, under the consultation The Private Rented Sector: Professionalism and Quality.
Commenting on the news, Alan Ward, chairman of the Residential Landlords Association (RLA), said: "The RLA supports the raising of standards for Landlords and good management of rented property. We have recently announced an accreditation scheme which will achieve just that."
He added local authorities should make use of measures which are already available in order to stamp out the worst offending Landlords.
However, Mr Ward warned the new feedback website may not be reliable.
