Outer London Commission 'to create vibrant suburbs'
A new commission has been created to help with the development of outer London boroughs.
Mayor Boris Johnson has appointed planning and development expert William McKee to head the body, dubbed the Outer London Commission.
It is hoped that the move will help draw attention to the potential of boroughs such as Harrow, Ealing and Greenwich.
Up to five successful town centres will be identified by the commission as growth hubs, with the aim of making further improvements and discovering best practice to be applied elsewhere.
Mr Johnson explained that the suburbs are often overlooked, adding: "I am determined to redress that imbalance and tap into this rich source of business and planning expertise to create an even stronger and more vibrant outer London."
Deputy mayor Kit Malthouse this week met with executive chair of Crossrail Doug Oakervee to discuss the possibility of building a new airport in the Thames Estuary.
