Landlords 'can benefit from sympathetically handling tenants'
Sympathetic handling of tenants who are currently experiencing financial difficulties could benefit Landlords in the long-terms, one sector commentator has claimed.
Tessa Shepperson, solicitor at LandlordLaw.co.uk, said a good tenant is a valuable resource for property professionals to have.
She added a tenant who looks after the property and normally pays the rent on time is a good person to have living in a rented home and Landlords should avoid asking them to leave as they do not know who they will be replacing them with.
"If it is a good tenant, it is genuinely not their fault and they come to you and tell you about it and they are upfront about it, it is worth Landlords making some accommodation for them," Ms Shepperson noted.
Such a course of action is likely to mean the tenant will be grateful and attempt to give something back in return, she explained.
A Landlord with a sympathetic ear may attract people to flats to rent in Fulham or another part of London if they are looking to save money while their finances are tight.
According to recent research by easyroommate.co.uk, the number of Landlords trying to remove tenants from their property has decreased by over 11 per cent since the third quarter of 2008.
